Hello,

Its is VITAL that we start to take on board in the UK that we desperately need to recycle our plastic bags i.e. shopping carrier bags.

No.1 do you know how many shopping bags go into landfill sites each year from the UK alone?

ANSWER is 60 billion bags!!!!

No.2 do you know how long it takes for a plastic bag to biodegrade once placed into the ground?

ANSWER is approximately 30-40years.

No.3 do you know how many times an ordinary plastic bag can be reused or recycled?

Answer = between 10-12 (possibly as much as 15 times if care is taken).

No.4 The irish government have implemented a plastic carrier bag recycling system across the entire country and its been hughly successfull. And apart from being able to use your own bags in shops, I believe you have to pay for a new plastic bag if you want one at the shops.

**The same scheme should & could be implemented here in the UK.

There may be advantages to incinerating certain plastics rather than recycling. If the burning plastics are used to produce energy, then other fuels (coal, oil, etc) are spared.

Yes, the question is.. why not?

If its a renewable resource, then there is no reason why you shouldn't recycle. Conserve energy, for the planet!

Yes. Plastics are made from the oil industry, and one day we will run out.

plastic is recycable cuz in the recycling factory, they melt it and turn into a rubber-plastic I2o substance which makes it into another plastic. recycle -----><----------
