Why the hell would it? This just sounds like a dumb, ridiculous rumor spread around by some anti-hip-hop individual (there's a surprising number of them around, it seems). There is certainly no scientific evidence to the theory. Besides, if gangsta rap lowered a person's IQ, then so would lots of other vaguely violent genres of music, like punk for example. I searched this on the Internet, and I actually found that scientists have done studies that have shown that country music is the only genre that has such an effect, so if there's anything you shouldn't be listening to, it's that! To me, this simply appears to be a sly dig at a seemingly much prejudiced-against musical genre.
