The VIN number is located on the left side lower frame rail, just in front on the footwells, where the frame starts to narrow to meet the front suspension. It will be a 17 digit number stamped into the frame. Count from left to right to the 10th digit. That tells you what year it is. "Y" is 2000, "1" is a 2001 and so on.

Just as important to you when buying parts and accessories for any Polaris is the model number. Polaris is famous (infamous?) for making mid year changes to a model that requires different parts, so a different model number is needed in order to get the right parts. The model number also helps to get the right color plastic, wheels, etc. The model number is usually located on a sticker under the seat near the airbox, back by the battery, or near the grill/front bumper close to the headlights, depending upon year and model.

If you can't locate it, get the whole VIN number and ask your local Polaris dealer to run a "Unit information" queery in the service section on the Polaris dealer website. That will give you all the pertant information on your particular machine including what service/tech bullitens apply and what has or hasn't been done to it.

This is pretty critical as Polaris has had some HUGE issues with ECM and CDI failures in the last few years that have resulted at best in stranding riders and at worst fires that have burned machines (and buildings!) to the ground.

It's worth making sure yours has been checked and updated if you don't know for sure that this has been done.

Get a No Cost Background Check Scan at https://bitly.im/aOpY2

Its a sensible way to start. The site allows you to do a no cost scan simply to find out if any sort of data is in existence. A smaller analysis is done without cost. To get a detailed report its a modest payment.

You may not realize how many good reasons there are to try and find out more about the people around you. After all, whether you're talking about new friends, employees, doctors, caretakers for elderly family members, or even significant others, you, as a citizen, have a right to know whether the people you surround yourself with are who they say they are. This goes double in any situation that involves your children, which not only includes teachers and babysitters, but also scout masters, little league coaches and others. Bottom line, if you want to find out more about someone, you should perform a background check.

Originally you had a fuel problem. Probably something as simple as a clogged filter. Now, it sounds like you've damaged the electrical system. Jumping a 4 wheeler off of a car is a bad idea... Also, something inside the pull starter is broken. I agree with taking to someone who knows what they are doing.

The absolutely free reverse vin check sites generally provide fake information. To get real information, money will have to be paid. The free searches provide fake information so they can get your email address to send spam.

Stay away from shady reverse vin check sites, most likely you won't get any information after you make the payment. Not to mention you won't get a report and you won't get an answer if you try to call for a refund. Stick with a reputable reverse vin check site like http://www.reversevincheck.net that has been around since 1995.

the sure way is to copy down the vehicle ID numbers and call the Polaris dealer and (politely) ask the parts dude to help you with the identification----- also while on the phone ask other questions that you need to resolve about your 4-wheeler---write it all on a note to yourself and that way you can get it right.....with one call.....

Depending on the year you will likely find the Sportsman ATV model and serial number identification decal located on the right front side of the front radiator covering.
