I'm getting an mp3 player for xmas. Is it true that if you subscribe and then stop subscribing to a download site then you can no longer play the songs you downloaded whilst subscribed? What's the point of that? I'd rather pay to download each song and then have no ongoing fees. So does anyone know where I get the cheapest (legal) music downloads?

If you dont want to get caught illegally downloading songs, and get charged $750 a song, dont even think about "limewire". This old lady got fined for over $777,00 for downloading just over 1000 songs from that kind of website. So try "walmart"(88 cent, but they hold $5 on your credit card until it's fully processed, thats dumb!) Also try Yahoo!, .99 a song plus you have to download their software, which is nice. Also with you windows media player, go at the top and see the list of music stores(legal ones)
Of course if you have an Ipod, your stuck with I tunes.

http://www.limewire.com/ is the most used free file sharing site. make sure you have anti virus running before swapping any files. the free edition of avg available from http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ does a good job. once you have installed limewire do a search for limewire pro. then install this and delete the original. pro is faster.

any site that allows downloads for a few cents each, or allows unlimited downloads is NOT legal they don't pay the copyright owners, so they are NOT legal
