Out of manufacturers only I would pick Fujitsu-Siemens
And HP and Compaq are the same these days

You forgot the most obvious choice. The ThinkPad, now by Lenovo, no longer IBM. If you want a robust, semi rugged laptop, that won't break down, this is the machine.
IF I had to answer from the ones you requested, the HP business class machines are 2nd best to the ThinkPad.
When you ask best are you asking "Best quality" or the "best-cheapest"? All the others on yoru list are cheap... I don't recommended unless you treat the laptop like a 2 week old baby, and don't take it out of the house, and make sure it is always protected as much as you can.

I have an HP and it works great. I didn't have a problem with it yet. But the tech support sucks.
Hmm...I don't see Apple on your list. That is a great computer with great tech support. and you can boot Windows on it.

from the list u ve given, i think hp is the best,,dell is equivalent,, but best is lenovo thinkpad,which i dint c in the list.. but if u talk abt cost factor too, hp is the 'the best'!
