Actually, it's not a stupid question. I'm trying to gauge the ignorance of someone I know. So far, these answers are kind of surprising me. I assumed that most people would give this act a high rating of ignorance... to completely write off 60-70 years of movie making simply because the pictures aren't pretty enough? I don't know... seems kind of ignorant to me.
Someone informed me that this may not be the right place to ask, however, that people on here may be too young to appreciate film making in all it's forms. I feel comfortable disagreeing with that sentiment. I think any age is capable of showing acceptance and open-mindedness, especially regarding early cinema. Well, aanyway... this question isn't as "stupid" as some of you seem to think it is. I'm asking for a real reason, I can't tell you more then that, otherwise my cander may skew the results.

ig·no·rant /ˈɪgnərənt/ -
–adjective 1. lacking in knowledge or training; unlearned: an ignorant man.
2. lacking knowledge or information as to a particular subject or fact: ignorant of quantum physics.
3. uninformed; unaware.
4. due to or showing lack of knowledge or training: an ignorant statement.
Yes, I meant to use that word, truelori. Let me rephrase my question so you can better understand what I was try to ask;
"On a scale of 0-10, how would you rate a person who is lacking the knowledge that movies can be great without being in color?"
I suppose I could spend another 5 points and ask that question, but I think most people here are able to understand my question.

It's not a question about a movie being old or new. If it was, I would have stated that and asked a different question. It's about a movie being in black and white.

I know some people who feel the same way. If there are no blood and guts in the movie they are watching they get bored. If the movie is in black and white they get bored faster.
Some of the best movies ever made have been black and white ones. Almost all of them have now been colorized which to me is a tragedy. Perhaps your friend would watch the colorized version and then maybe appreciate the true version later.
I think your question about the 1-10 thing is moot.He will watch what he chooses.

It depends entirely on the person. If they really have a dislike for black and white, have honestly tried but it bothers them to watch for some reason that wouldn't be ignorance.
If a person just flat out said "I ain't wasting my time even tryin to watch a black and white movie" that would be ignorance.
Sorry I can't put a number on it generally, however in my second example at least a 7.
Matters of taste and ignorance do unfortunately, as well as often have similar traits.

People not liking black and white movies is not a rare phenomenon. This is the result of an overstimulated culture that constantly wants bigger, better, more, now.
People seem to have lost the appreciation of subtlety, a well crafted story with depth of character and emotion, good acting, and originality. They would prefer to see the same thing rehashed a million times with more expensive special effects laden garbage. It's a cultural epidemic that is as scary as it is sad. The same applies to music, crafts, the market, so on and so forth. What you are seeing in your friend is a microcosm of the widespread murder of culture and appreciation thereof that has been orchestrated thru the use of such behemoths as Wal Mart and McDonalds and shopping malls and the military industrial complex and who has the money and who really cares let's just watch TV.
*Deep breath* Sorry, I started ranting.

I think you misunderstand the word ignorant. Do you mean "arrogant?" Or perhaps some other word? Ignorant means uneducated. How would someone be uneducated just because they don't want to watch a movie in black and white? I don't get it. I say zero on scale of 1 to 10. I am not particularly fond of B&W movies myself but I would watch one. Maybe they don't like old movies. See if they'll watch Ed Wood.

Zero. It's simply a matter of personal preference. It would be an unfortunate choice. That person would be missing some great stories and beautifully shot (black and white is starker) films.

wow---the very best films are black and white.
Just like, when I was a child i didn't want to eat mushrooms, or the fancier foods. Someday, the "color-only" movie fans will grow up and appreciate great films, which are just about all black and white.

Um... I'd say 7. You can't judge a movie before you see it. I leave the 3 because black and white tends to put people to sleep.

The person may just not like the movie. However if he hates it because it is in black and white, it is still his decision, it doesn't mean that he is ignorant. You answer is zero.
