Because they were being taxed.

They also wanted to be independant from England. They rebelled to form thier own country because of religion and i think they were just following up w/ the whole tea tax thing....lots of merchants refused to put tea in thier stores and many refused to buy it from merchants who were selling it.

They were still taxed when buying tea. Also, they wanted to rebel against England, and show that they wanted to be a free and independent country.
