I'm trying to figure out how to read football spreads/odds. I thought the team with the + points was picked to win by that ammount, and the team with - is picked to lose by that ammount, but in some cases, it just doesn't make sense.

good, then you won't be able to bet and lose your money. It's a racket

The team with the negative points is the favorite; the team with the positive points is the underdog.

For example, if you look at the spread for Oakland and Cincinnati, you'd see Oakland +11 Cincinnati -11, which means that the Bengals are an 11-point favorite. If you bet on this game on Oakland, the Raiders have to win or lose by less than 11 for you to win. If you take Cincinnati, they have to win by more than 11. If Cincinnati ends up winning by 11, it's a push.

for example if a team shows +3, and you pick that team, you start out with 3 pts. when the game is final, if the team you picked with the +3 wins by 3 points or less you lose. if they win by 4 points or more you win. it works the opposite with -points. if you pick a team with -3, you have to win by - 2 or more.
