Compared to previous eras, pretty democratic. A greater focus on the common man, an implication that the president worked explicitly on behalf of the people, more primaries instead of caucuses, more elections, more elected instead of appointed officials, and inside states, eliminations of reductions of property and money requirements for being eligible to vote or hold office, and even of religious requirements in some states.
