Yes, as of next July here in England you will not be able to smoke in any pub OR club. So what are the people who smoke going to do?

Have to walk back in and out of a club every half hour or so to light up outside? Or have a sneaky one behind the chair when the bouncers aren't looking and risk arrest? What do you think its gonna be like?

to 'Me!'...

'Isn't it that easy?'

NO it isn't. You see, smoking is very very ADDICTIVE... why cant some of you people understand that???

It's easy to sit on your smug high horse and tell us what to do... but you really need to understand how difficult it actually is.

Hi all! You know we've been doing this for quite a few years now here in the US, but just yesterday some guy gave us hell here on yahoo, blaming us for polluting the entire planet because we now smoke outside! It was hilarious. I thought, we can't win for losing! So maybe you'll be hearing from him soon! Just thought it was a funny coincidence when I saw your question and thought I'd share it with you. While I'm at it, Happy Holidays and peace be with you all. Oh and narct3, you will get used to it. It's just a drag at first, (pardon the pun.)

Well, I'm from Montana (USA) originally and there is a no smoking ban in public in place. We have TONS of bars, not really clubs, but there hasn't been a problem there. In fact, some of the bars actually get more business now that there is no smoking. A lot of non-smokers stayed away from bars because of all the smoke, but there's no need to now. I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happens there.

You all will go outside to smoke if you feel the need. Just like people in many other countries already do. Quit being so selfish and get over it. The non-smokers in the club find your puffing annoying anyway. Smoking is your right, and being a smoker once I know this. However, now that I'm a parent I understand the implications that it has on others. That's why I have quit, and why I agree with smoking bans.

Come to Canada for an example. We've had that law in affect now for two odd years. No smoking in pubs, clubs, restaraunts. There are those who would vote to even ban smoking in selected areas outside. Ironically, we don't fight it. Well, there's really not much we can do about it anyway. But we do have clubs and coffee shops that have seperate rooms that are completely seperated from the main room to smoke without having to go outside. This is great for the winter. Repeat violations will result in having the establishment's license temporarily suspended accompanied by a stiff fine. So, bite your lip and follow the rules. Smoking's not that important anyway. I used to smoke pretty bad ( 22 yrs.), but I'm not gonna go out of my way to go outside and freeze my butt off for a couple of drags. Eat peanuts or popcorn or whatever they lay on the counter. If you get the urge to smoke have another drink of your beer. Or get the patch. Don't put so much emphasis on smoking. I know it's hard cause for me after 3 beers the urge for a smoke just gets stronger and then I would risk freezing my butt off. But quitting was easy for me because of my deteriorating health related to it, that and drinking, so I don't drink or smoke anymore. I guess this question doesn't really apply to me anymore. But, that's my two cents. Peace.

Pubs will lose trade as the smokers will not want to go outside when it is cold and raining, It is already shown that Bingo halls in Scotland have lost out because of the no smoking ban, people like to have a ciggie especially the old ones who have been smoking for years will find it a lot harder to quit, I am a smoker and don't drink smoking is my only pleasure I am disabled and it has nothing to do with smoking. Drink causes just as much damage to you're health if not more, You don't see a smoker getting aggressive after he/she has had a ciggie, but you do see aggressiveness with drinkers. Smoking helps you when you are stressed it's like a baby with a dummy it's comforting

The same as what they do in Scotland and Ireland - go outside if they have the need to smoke - or better still give up! It isn't as bad as people think, most people in Scotland have found it quite easy and it is a lot healthier for all the non-smokers.

Being a non smoker i have no idea.
I will just be glad that the effects of someone else's habit doesnot end up in my clothes my hair and lungs!
I'm fed up of not being able to breathe etc, so from my point of view I can't wait.

So because of how smoking has affected my enjoyment over the years, I don't feel the difficulties that smokers face are any of my business.

After all - smokers haven't given two hoots as to how their habit annoyed the hell out of me!

Yes it is difficult. I stopped smoking a long time ago, but I tried to stop hundreds of times.
I am really anti smoke, but do sympathise with smokers - the current bad boys being wipped by authority. At the same time, I'll be pleased these places are smoke free.

Move to holland its a better life there, more personel freedom, than this nanny-state we have become,i don`t mean about the drugs, more the everyday things we use to have, before the torys and the new torys got in.I don`t smoke myself but i find it scary how much our libertys have been taken away in this so called righteous country of ours........i think the smokers should of stood up long before now....and said No......you take the taxes....now our freedom to use what we bought (double standards hey). The carpet ban is wrong,if now i don`t want to be near cigarette smoke i go myself into non-smoking areas......as other people (its our choice),but to take that choice where to smoke away is criminal....i think its time for this goverment to rethink its steam rollered policys.......as for the poor smoker......its going to be very hard for them....as for being arrested thats part of a facist state.....?,i think the british public will have to watch its back in times to come

It'll be like it is in Scotland now.

If you want to go out for a ciggie you get a special stamp on the back of your hand. You go outside, smoke, then come back in - but you don't have to queue again because you're stamped.

Pit of a pain in bad weather, but it seems to work.

Absolutely no one smokes in clubs or pubs in Scotland now, ever.
