Go to your local social services department and apply for medicaid or the state medical aid. They will help pay for all of the stuff you are saving for. In Las Vegas, the hospitals have a special program where they help you out as long as you have your child in a specified hospital. In Kansas, they paid for all of my medical and introduced me to other places that will help.
Also, ask them if there are any "parenting" classes or groups that you could get involved with.
My husband and I went to a "parenting pays" class that was once a week for nine weeks. By being involved we received a "welcome home" kit which had the first entire wardrobe of the baby and all of the needs you can think of... Like towels, washcloths, diaper cream, bottles, teething rings, toys, bibs and so so much more. I also received vouchers that I can cash in for other necessities.. Every three months you get a new out fit for the child and I can go in once a month and get two cans of formula and some diapers.
All it took me was my time and gas money. Also, call the local health department or when you talk to the social services office ask about WIC (women infant and children). Right now they pay for about $160 a month of baby formula and while I was pregnant they purchased about $50 a month in milk, cheese, eggs, beans, peanut butter and vegetables.
I hope this helps.

First of all congrats on your pregnancy.. Sesond it's very important for you to have prenatal care while pregnant to be monitored for any possible complications. You'll need to get penatal vitamins and have your blood pressuer checked as well as a urine sample each month to ensure that you and the baby are okay. Along with another ton of tests that just go hand in hand with good prenatal care. You can call your local city agency and see if you can get on a title 19 program or like a healthy start program that give you free insurance to you and your baby once he or she is born. It's very important to do this b/c without this it's unlikely that you'll be able to even see a dr. w/o having insurance. Until you can do all that i'd go to your local drug store and pick up a pernatal vitamin...it's important to take every day to help prevent birth defects. ALways make sure your eathing healthy and drinking plealty of fludis especially in those early months b/c you cna become dehydrated so easilyif you have morning sickness.

I have two kids, one is grown. I've learned a lot in my years as a mom, including birth experiences of many other women.
Be smart.
Spend your money on your baby's MOM's pregnancy, so there'll be no complications to prevent MOM and BABY from being alive and healthy to enjoy each other.
If you REALLY have to choose, take care of your pregnant health with supervised care (regular checkups) and have the baby at home. Better chances of good results, if your money is only going to one place. Be preventive.
However, doesn't every state have insurance for the destitute/poor? In California, that's my experience. State insurance aided my prenatal care and the hospital birth. Start investigating, be your own advocate and get yourself some information. It would be beyond horrible if you saved money for the least minute (birth), then found out that some complication had gone by unattended, harming (or worse) your baby . . . or you.
Best of luck.

I am sorry about all the RUDE people on here.I would love to see them pull about 10,000 dollars out of there ***. Having a baby is VERY expensive and I think that you need to get on Medicaid or talk to anyone who could give you info on how to get free or low cost care. If nothing else go to the hospital periodically to get a check up to make sure everything is fine. Many people have babies and are not RICH. Just do what I said and keep taking prenatal vitamins and rest and you should be ok!

Your city or county should have a Social Security office; you need to go there and bring some identification with you and if you are not working or make little enough to qualify, then you can get medicaid and that will cover all doctor appointments, time in the hospital during the delivery, and one ob/gyn appointment after you deliver to make sure your body has healed from the delivery. You need to go in and see if you are eligible ASAP and start taking prenatel vitamins or 2 flintstone vitamins a day. Avoid people who smoke, don't drink, don't eat fish (some fish, like tuna, have mercury that is dangerous to the fetus), eat a diet rich in vitamins, don't drink caffeine.

Is there any free community clinics that you can go to? Or a dr who is willing to aid you? Otherwise, I would make sure you are taking prenatal vitamins each day and eating well. Lots of nutritious food and water. I would also get plenty of rest. It would be a good idea to see a dr at least every couple of months or so to make sure the baby is growing adequately. Is there anybody who could help you financially? I hope you have a successful pregnancy and if you take care of your body, then your body will take care of your baby! Good luck!

You need to contact your local department of human services and apply for medicaid and WIC programs. Once you have done that and qualify the state will pay for all medical bills for prenatal care, delivery, etc. WIC will give you vouchers to get certain food items and once the baby is born certain baby formulas as well.

Go to your local health department or free clinic. You really need pre-natal care and vitamins. Plus there you can get information of taking care of your baby and free immunizations once it arrives, because baby checkups are not optional! Your baby will need vaccines and routine health care.

Okay, if you can't afford it, then you need to talk to the state or the medical professional's office about state-sponsored pregnancy insurance.
In California, we have AIM (Access for Infants and Mothers) for people who don't qualify for MediCal or Medicaid. Check your state to see what programs you have for your income bracket.
