It might be a scam and it might not be. It is probably a company
wanting you to buy there stuff or join their pyramid scheme. The prizes are probably crap and there might be some underlying hidden stuff saying you have to buy something.
I used to be a car salesman and they used to let a company come in and try to get people with bad credit to buy a car. They would say to come in and get your free credit score and credit report. They would pull your credit and then try to sell you a car and it actually worked a third of the time. If you didn't want to buy a car you did get a Walkman or something cheap.
In Mexico you can watch presentations and win free extras whir you are there like free dinners and what not. It works and some times the people get pissed if you do not buy their stuff but if you are hard enough and can sit through their presentation the dinners and trips are nice. You might even win a free night at a resort.
They are all scams though and yours sounds like it is too. It cant hurt to go if you are strong willed and don't give them any personal information where they can send you all kinds of crap or sell your name to some other company that will.

Yes - it is a scam. In my daughter's 12th grade year, we got many of these offers. They want you to come somewhere so they can explain their plan and then try to pressure you into accepting or signing up for some offer which will, in the end, make money for them. If you get some help with college tuition, at least the kind you are looking for, I would be shocked.
I'm going to check back on this answer because maybe someone will let slip a place that we can go to get financial aid, being just the regular everyday citizen, where we don't feel so cheated.

It sounds like a scam to get you and everyone else to check out a sales ploy, almost like when you are recruited to buy a time-share property. You are given a prize but only after you give them a chance to pitch a sale where you will end up spending more money than the prize is worth.

The proven fact that he has your truly identify and house cope with, you DO NOT wish to play him at his possess recreation. That simplest works if it is an e-mail scammer and your e-mail cope with does now not include your truly identify - then you'll scambait them. But those don't seem to be lone contributors carrying out those assess scams - they're crook gangs and you don't wish to debris with them after they recognize in which you reside. These cash laundering scams are in most cases run via the Russian or Nigerian mafia and they're brutal. All you'll do is inform him you deposited the assess and have been in your method to Western Union while your financial institution referred to as to let you know there was once a crisis with the assess and also you had to come again. Say you went again and the police have been there, who took you into the station for wondering. Say that you simply gave the police his identify and e-mail and confirmed them the emails that this was once a truly activity present, and that he has to visit the police station while he is again within the US to style the whole thing out. Say you continue to wish the activity however you'll simplest take coins while you seem on the activity, not anything else, as you're now beneath research for financial institution fraud and your account has been quickly frozen till he is going to the police and settles this topic. But do not move past that considering they do recognize in which you reside and your truly identify. Reporting this to the FBI is the satisfactory method to get again at them.

It sure sounds like it. If they actually do give you a prize, it probably won't be a great one. It'll be CHEAP. And they'll put a lot of pressure on you for many months to buy whatever they're selling, which is also a ripoff.

If you enjoy getting phone calls, spam, and junk mail, then GO FOR IT!!

If you have to ask, you know it is. They promise one great prize, and the rest are things like ball point pens, and you have to pay S&H to get it. Stay home, unless you want to see what suckers look like... Good Luck!!
