i'm 16, and yeah, i'm a complete folkie, crazy as they come! i've done morris at workshops at festivals before and always really enjoyed it, but not properly as a side - too scary - though i love watching and am always willing to cheer people on! i'm more into english dancing: playford, country, ceilidh... i'd like to learn the steps for scottish at some point (i think the figures themselves are fairly similar to english).

Brilliant thing to do! There are some excellent morris teams, and I'm really glad to hear a 14 year old is dancing the morris! I would do it myself, if I lived in the UK. It's a great thing to do, keeping our pagan traditions alive through the generations.
Keep it up!!!

Have never done Morris Dancing but seen plenty of it. I have seen exactly the same dance performed in Iraq and this is probably where it originally came from - Moorish Dancing - and probably got introduced into England around the time of King Richard I (Crusades).
Keep on dancing - it will keep you fit and you'll get to meet lots of interesting people, especially if your team go on tour or compete with others in competitions.

Yes, I would if I could fit it into my schedule. There is a 'local' side, but they're too far away for me to get involved at this time. I keep trying to have my local ballet company invite them to participate in our annual Festival of Dance. I've seen several sides here in the States, plus in the 'Doctor Who' episode 'The Daemons' (the Heddington Quarrymen).
BTW, Benny Hill referenced Morris dancing in one of his shows:
'Have you ever since Morris dancing? (points to sidekick) Well, he's better'n Morris!'
Have fun, and thanks for helping to keep the tradition going!

It's usually an excuse for drinking a lot of beer (the real ale variety with sawdust in it). Not really a suitable occupation for a 14 year old, although you've got 4 years in which to build up a thirst.

I have when I was a kid. It is great fun, quiet interesting and just a little bit silly. But I encourage people to do things that are a little bit silly from time to time.

Not my cup of tea, but they are good to watch if I happen to be walking past when I am out doing my shopping in the shopping mall and they are there performing.
