The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are two very separate yet intinsically linked documents. Formally, the Declaration has no legal power whatsover in the United States, while the Constitution is the foundation of all legal power in the United States.
Even the tone of the documents have clear differences. The Declaration is far shorter and is a passionate document, using high language to describe the rights of man and how King George III of England had violated these rights. The Declaration is an ideological and philosophical document containing what the signatories felt the powers of government should be. It contained strong religious and spiritual symbolism, though not necessarily pertaining to any one faith.
The Constitution is a much "drier" document, outlining in plain English (from a legal standpoint) what the setup and powers of the government were. In keeping with the ideals added by the Bill of Rights, all religious references were removed from the Constituion (compare to the famous beginning of the Declaration, "...that all men are created equal, and endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights...")
Hope this clears it up for you.

No they are completely different.
The Declaration was a document written up to declare to England that America wished to become a separate nation.
The Constitution is the document the governs America. It is the document of laws. It contains the Bill of Rights, which is a list of rights that we as people and American citizens are privileged to have.

On radio, Obama accurately described the fundamental purpose of America under the Constitution. He said the problem is that it isn't the exact opposite of what it is. Not one speck of evidence exists that suggests he ever taught anyone anything on any topic. He has never been a professor of anything anywhere. His BEST teaching credential is as an "adjunct lecturer" who is not known to have actually delivered even one lecture. Bush, Reagan and I think even Clinton wrote their own speeches and had professional writers "polish" them for presentation. Other than while repudiating Americanism no one has ever heard Obama speak except by reading what someone else wrote. Even at press-conferences, he READS ANSWERS to the questions he takes. His is an absolutely unprecedented degree of dependence on others to avoid seeming completely inarticulate and/or extremely hateful of America. Each and every time he's ever off-prompter he ALWAYS reveals one or the other.
