how long should we wait before we begin to look at things as human problems and non-human problems ? and ....one step further....would it be appropriate to have an organization whose stated purpose was to further the interests of tall white american men? (or to address the problems which are of interest to that group). Keeping in mind that any problem suffered by any member of any group will certainly be suffered by other members of other groups. I am not being flippant here when i say for example domestic abuse, whose victims are ALMOST exclusively female, the fact is not every single victim is female. So those members of those groups effectively fall through the cracks, and isnt every group formed to help people who have some special circumstances which are in some ways out of their control, and isnt that groups purpose to provide some form of empowerment. Why leave out any individual? why isnt every individual welcome and encouraged to benefit from any group interested in equality?

until things begin to be more human and less the groups humans come in we need this section. throughout history men have run the show. even today more males have power and more administative jobs than females. We don't have a clear voice in most places.
this page is alos good because many people don't understand things about women and want their views. the idea of the female gender is and has changed so much we need something to weed out the myths and make things clear/easy to understand

If a group of people want to get together and study what makes a woman a women and the issues that effect women, I think that is wonderful.

If a group of people want to do the same thing with men, that's great too.

We can ask for equality all we want, and we may get it, but it doesn't mean we're the same and that's fine too and I think it's okay to study that on both sides.

Just my opinion.

Equal does not mean exactly the same. Men and women ARE different. At the same time, they are equal too. We can always learn more about each other, about anything really. We'll never know ALL there is to know about anything, so why not study everything?

Men's studies is an area that does exist. Check out such books as "Stiffed" by Faludi and "Monster" by Bouldrey.

I majored in History and I think for now it is okay to have women's studies because our history books do exclude women. How much do you personally know about women's involvement in the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, Civil Rights, etc? What were women's roles in the 20's,50's,60's,80's? Did you know that the military hung a woman for her so-called "part" in the assassination of Lincoln and still to this day no one really knows if she had any involvment? When these things start taking their place in our history books then no, we won't need a women's studies any longer.

and that's exactly why I don't understand the extreme feminist views...essentially, they are not trying to find equality.
Equality cannot ever be fully attained, people are just waaay too different for that (and everyone being looked upon generically would be boring yea?)
but understanding can be achieved.

if there should be women's studies, there should be men studies, and left handers studies, and wearer of flip flop studies.

and what exactly are you trying to say with the last 12 lines of your point?
