Prohibition reduces revenue of the country and encourages illegal bootlegging. Prohibition has never succeeded in making people teetotallers but it has instigated people to violate the law and the law-protectors to grease their hands.

Hi I'm a Canadian.
When The USA had prohibition, some interesting things happened in Canada. Some well respected Beer companies got very rich.
Detroit is across the river from Windsor Ontario. Each morning there were several boats that left the Windsor dock filled with beer and other Liquor. They were all bound for Cuba. They all returned to the Windsor Docks each night empty. Several years ago they found a cast iron pipe that went under the Detroit River. They would pour liquor into the pipe on the Windsor side and tap off the liquor on the Detroit side.
There were a lot of "Interesting" businesses in Canada that were sorry to see prohibition end
Hope this helps

There were many good and bad effects of Prohibition, which banned the manufacture, transport, or sale of alcohol, but not actually banning drinking however.
Good: Less drinking. A lot of people did in fact follow the law and the amount of drinking went down, as did arrests for drinking related crimes. Also, one thing people tend to forget is that Prohibition came about in the midst of an anti-immigrant culture war time period, and the sense was that if you removed booze from their lives, they would be more focused on becoming good Americans. These immigrants tended to drink in real dive bars known as saloons, and by shutting these down, it forced the immigrants out and theoretically made them be better citizens and more focused on their work.
Downsides: US government lost tax revenue, spent large sums fighting a losing battle ultimately against smugglers and moonshine makers, a lot of people broke the law without fear and had no respect for the law, the Mafia got a start here, and most importantly, people didn't stop drinking.

It opened up the avenues for people to make alcohol at home and distribute illegally. It also gave large rise to night clubs (called speakeasy's) to open and serve alcohol. You had to have the correct password to enter these clubs and most of them were run by what we refer to as the underground or the mafia. It also was a hard lesson that the US had to learn. Never prohibit something without the consequences of opening the doors wide to illegal substances. This is probably one of the reasons cigarettes are not prohibited. One of the most famous members of the FBI was Elliott Ness who sought after these people known as gangsters, who not only sold and gained a huge profit from the service of alcohol but also had places of gambling. These people, common known as gangsters could avoid paying income tax on their gains from illegal alcohol and gambling until they were finally caught.
Learned this from history.
There are still some counties in the USA that do not allow alcohol. One simply drives to the county line and will find at least three liquor stores gathered right across the county line.
Anything prohibited is always an open door to drug trafficking.
