How much choice do you have?
Leave school early with no qualifications and your choices are limited. Mainly to manual and low paid work. It is not the end of all chances though, as you can work your way up from the bottom or succeed through apprenticeship etc but it is much harder.
Come out of school with great grades and your choices are wider.
Come out of university with a passable degree and your choices are large. Come out with a really good degree, masters, doctorate etc and the worlds your oyster.
It is about choice and options. The lower the qualification the less choice and options you have. The higher the qualification the more choice you have.
At the end of the day someone passing out of uni with a really great degree might choose to be a bum but they have had the full range of options to choose from!
You have to invest to reap benefits. A little investment now may well pay dividends later.
Take a little time. Listen carefully to those who have made it. Listen carefully to those who are happy. Look at the upside, look at the down side.
The choices you make now may well dictate the course of the rest of your life. No one can tell you what is right for you - that is your decision. Good luck in making it!!

School. Like the above answer said, get the highest level of education that you can so that you can make more money in the long run. You can work part time still while you go to school. Education makes a huge difference. You can get more jobs, make more money initially, and get promotions a lot quicker than a person who is not as well educated as you.

in school you can learn something, and unless you can get an interesting job or have an education to get a great job where you are learning something new from it everyday then jobs are boring and tiresome. my last job paid well but i was learning nothing, so now i'm taking a break from work and going to school so i can get a job in something i enjoy (architecture) which is a great field to get into because it's constantly growing, changing, improving...etc.
the down fall to school is you have to pay for it where as you get paid to do a job.
If you have the opportunity to do a job you enjoy, be secure in it, get paid well for it, and have something to fall back on, then that's when a job is better than school. but the chances of getting that are slim with out an education.

Without doubt get to the highest level of education that you can. You will have enough years to work - 40 or more.
