Power in Watts = Voltage x Amps
Assuming 1 Ohm resistance due to internal battery resistance then you will have 18 amps of current
18 amps times 18 Volts equals 324 watts
definately hot enough to cause a burn and possible cause the batteries to rupture.

The just-get-hot answer is probably true for regular old alkali 9 volt transistor radio batteries. However be careful. Higher performance Lithium batteries or larger lead acid batteries could explode after a few seconds. That would bad because they contain toxic and/or corrosive chemicals. Also, if the connection is made with a wire, the wire will get hot and *it* may explode into a hot flash of molten metal.
