You betcha!
Any person or gourp that insists that you should get your knowlege of the world around you directly from them and no other is trying to controle you.
If a teacher say's you can only learn what is said in his text book or a holy man say's you can only go by what's in his holy book that is a kind of control.
If you are told that you are to dumb, or not good enough to understand or be granted certine knowledge that's also controling.
Now if you are a child and are told that you are too young to understand something, that is also control but a kind and caring sort that is ment to protect you until you are old enough to comprehend something. But even that kind is dangerouse if carried too far and for too long.
In the Middle ages the Church and the Lords of the Lands were quite content for only members of the Church hiarchy to be able to read. That way the Lord's didn't have to worry about the pesents asking questions of their Betters and the Church didn't have to worry about being quiestioned at all.
As for who might do that today? Here's my short list:
The Republicans / Democrates / name your political party.
Pick an organized relegion (any and all)
Large multinational corperations including but not limited to:
Oil / Gas / Coal based corperations
agribuisnesses
and those trying to corner the market of fresh water.
All of them are constantly trying to control people with commercials (buy my stuff!) or convence us they arn't trying to make odles of cash at our expence.
I have no problem with making a resonable profit but some of these folks are just insateable!

Yes. I think all societies are divided between the haves and the have nots. The haves want to keep it that way so they arrnage rules to ensure that nobody breaks into their club, which would dilute their power and wealth. How many poor black people go to Ivy League colleges? Not a whole lot. And it's NOT because there aren't any who are smart enough. Poor people and people with other ethnicities than white have to work very hard just to stay middle class, while rich folks set themselves and their children up for easy success. Does anyone think George Bush EARNED his way into an Ivy Leageue School? Heck, even if a poor person DOES get admitted, he cant pay for it. Tell someone who spent his whole life living below the poverty line that he needs to use student loans to finance 100 grand for his education. It ain't happening.
Furthermore, what about raising the minimum wage? Business leaders don't want it becaue God forbid they only make 50 million a year instead of 60. So they call their friends in the governrment and make sure that bills raising theminimum wage do not get passed. While there is no single organization per se that I think does this, one need look no farther than our government, business leaders, and education system to see evidence - no proof - of the desire to keep most of America dumb and poor. Our country's schools, jobs, laws, and everything are written in order to maintain the status quo. PERIOD.
Now that I got that off my chest, good luck and I hope this helps.

Almost no organization will try to keep people absolutely and completely uneducated. But organizations will attempt this but only for certain types of things. Many organizations try to keep certain things hidden. Sometimes, they don't even think of it as keeping information away from people. Instead they think of it as "helping" the people, or "showing them the right way", as if it was for those peoples' "own good". This is done by big governments, religions, even by small regional local organizations, such as school boards and city government.

Yes. Biased political organizations with representatives like Tim Br (a few responses above) will try to tell you what to think about their opponents and discourage you from learning the truth yourself.
Learn about ALL political organizations, INCLUDING Tim Br's yourself. Then make up your OWN mind. Educate yourself - don't let biased demagogues like Tim Br tell you what to think.
And even if you should decide that his organization is consistent with your viewpoints, so be it. At least you will have done so by educating yourself in an unbiased manner.
Fair and balanced - NOT like Tim Br

That is part of the problem with Communism. When people get educated they see the flaws. Look at Poland.
But I see what you mean, judging from some of the questions and some of the parrot answers on here, it seems like it.

Ask yourself this. "How many people think of themselves as educated and smart because of education here in the U.S.?" Then ask " How many people consider themselves informed about world events, and what was their source of that information?"
That's the trick. Give a bunch of morons an education, their still morons. Feed disinformation in a manner that's believable you win. Wag the Dog!

Yes, the Democratic Party, as long as you keep voting for them. You won't need an education, the public school teachers will let you graduate, so that it appears good for them that they have achieved a high graduation rate, lol. Don't feel like working? Well, the Democrats will give you welfare, as long as you vote for them. That way you can go on selling drugs on the street corner, and collect a check at the same, lol. Don't feel like paying for medical insurance and have none when you get shot in drive-by when standing on the street corner? Don't worry, just go to the emergency room, its somebody elses fault that you are in such a pathetic situation, try blaming it on Republicans, lol. Don't feel like saving for your retirement? Don't worry, the Democrats invented Social Security strictly to assuage people who are too concerned with the present, than to think of retirement, lol. Keep voting for the Democrats, they'll take care of you from cradle to grave.

Although I doubt that they would state it in so many words, I think that any individual or group of individuals may disregard ethical questions when these happen to raise obstacles to their goals/plans of action. You may witness this daily in your life, relationships, workplace, market place.

Thankfully yes. Many organizations and overnments do, and it is the only thing that allows for a capitalistic economy. It is imperative for an orderly society that there be certain members who control and restrict knowledge and education resources.

You have to know what you are dealing with before you can judge though.
