Check for 12 volts to the 's' terminal on the solenoid with the engine in the crank position. If you are getting the full 12 volts, you need a new starter/solenoid assembly.

The battery may be so dead that it requires charging for a period before trying to crank. Or, you may have a bad connection with your jumper cables. Check for loose battery clamps and corrosion. In a DC system if a connector is even the least bit loose it can have enormous effects with respect to voltage drop. Good luck and be careful...jump starting is dangerous. Keep your face away from the batteries and don't smoke!

Most likely cause is a failed solenoid. When the contacts are worn out it will click but not close the circuit to the starter. They're cheap, just snag a replacement and you should be up and running in no time.

You can verify this pretty easily with a couple of old beefy wrenches. Hold one on each of the large terminals on the solenoid and short them together quickly. If the motor cranks you've identified your culprit. Just be careful that you don't short the wrenches to anything but each other as you'll fry your alternator if you do.

if the solinoid is clicking then check all your connections then try tapping on the starter with a small hammer if it starts your starter is at fault
