update #2
2^x=8192
log both sides
log 2^x=log 8192
then bring the x to the front b/c its an exponent in a log
x log 2 = log 8192
then divide log 8192 by log 2
final answer is 13

you could simply divide 8196 by 2 repeatedly and count how many times you do this to get to 1. (13)
or if you have a calculator or slide rule you could take the log of each side knowing that ln(2^x) = x ln(2) so x = ln(8192)/ln(2) = 13

2^x = 8192 = 2*2*2*2*2*2*2*2*2*2*2*2*2 = 2^13
Hence, x = 13

i don't understand why people ask such questions. if you're learning it in school you schould know what steps to make to get the answer. just do it like you were taught and you should get the answer. do your own homework.
