First of all, you need to smack a doctor who says they won't try to stop your labor at 34 weeks, especially if the baby is a boy. Size doesn't matter like lung development does. I'm grateful that another doc was on call.
Ask about betamethasone injections (given in your hip to help develop the baby's lungs prior to delivery) and terbutaline (to take orally to help to prevent another bout of preterm labor.)
Rest on your left side, drinking lots of water, as much as you can. Staying well hydrated with good circulation to the baby, and reducing gravity is your best friend against more preterm labor, whether they're telling you this or not.
You might be right back in there... you might go ahead now and carry to post date. I've seen everything - lol
Anything prior to 36 weeks they should be actively trying to stop labor though... and you're considered preterm before 37 weeks.
My best to you...

Your not in real labor "medically" (first stage) until you dilate to 6 cm and totally efface. For a primagravida (first pregnancy) this process can take days even weeks to just get to that point where labor truly begins. As long as your water has not broken, there is no danger if it stops. After you dilate 6 CM and totally efface, if and when you truly begin labor again, then you must progress at about 1.3 cm per hour as a first time pregnancy in order for the labor to be considered dynamic, and not static. When the womb has ac hived a dilatation of 10 Cm the second stage of labor begins. That involves you physically pushing the baby out. (with an epidural it involves you being told to push it out). That is usually timed for about 2 hours. If the fetus is doing well with The heart rate and so forth, they might let it go a bit more. But if it stops they will consider a C-Section. When I practiced It was a 2% primary C-section rate, and a 2% secondary rate for a total of 4%. Now C-sections are at 20 to 25% total due to the litigious society, where every child is born without birth defects or else... You will do fine 97% of women always do... Good luck and the best to you and the baby.

God chooses when each of us are to be born. If you have the baby now as in today. Your baby will probably most likely be sent to the NICU. They will check his breathing and make sure everything has devloped, which the lungs are the last thing to develop so that would be there concern. Your baby will probably be small because in the last 6 weeks of pregnancy that is when your baby gains fat, but don't worry there are lots of babies that are born early and turn out fine. My son and daughter were both born 3 weeks early and were fine and healthy. Just take it easy relax and that baby boy will be born when God intended. Take one day at a time. You'll be gine. Good luck on Motherhood.

I went into preterm labour with all three of my kids @ 28 weeks. I effaced but i did not dialate thanks to the meds they gave me. The 3rd time was the worst however, i needed to be in the hospital overnight because the meds took longer to work. The first two were born @ 40 weeks , my third baby was born @ 38 weeks.
Good luck.

i was 39 weeks when that happened and they never "STOPPED" it just took forever (54)hrs of contractions to fully dilate and efface me. I would say that your prob. NOT going to carry to term. I would get plenty of rest because I'm almost positive you are going in soon. Good luck
