I need to ask. Ok, I got four goldfish yesterday. It's the only pet I can have right now. Anyway, I'm a little concerned because they refuse to swim around. They all just huddle in the same corner, and they won't eat. Can anyone give me any suggestions (real suggestions, no mean or smart butt comments)? Do they just have to get acclaimated to their new aquarium? Please help.

It's a big aquarium with lots of plants, but not so many that they can't swim around. Does that help, or does it hinder?

google the "nitrogen cycle" if you don't already know about it. That is the absolute most important step for a fish begginer! If you learn about that first, it will save you a lot of heart ach and frustration, i'm speaking from experience here.

Second, someone mentioned getting them a hiding place and I agree whole heartedly! I'd caution that you make sure that it is something that the fish can swim THROUGH. If it only has one opening, the fish can get stuck in it and die b/c they are two silly to figure out how to turn around. I've lost a few fish b/c I had a ship in my tank that fish kept getting stuck in!

Third, they likely need some time to adjust. Do some reading and learn about gold fish, and you'll do fine,
Good luck!

i like the place youre going with this, i pass college lots. often if u pass to ur mom nd say u dont sense nicely, she shud enable united statesa. off college . If she doesnt enable u say youll be little need at school besides because of the fact your feeling ill, and you wont have the flexibility to concentration.it works greater effective in case you're saying sense ill the evening b4 so it doesnt arouse suspicion. Failing that, what ive achieved a pair of situations is faux notes from my mum and dad that are writen by using acquaintances asserting i replaced into unwell the former day and didnt are available. Howver ive been caught as quickly as and replaced into in deep truble so i wouldnt propose it, purely a final motel. I dont incredibly have the different strategies, the ill trick is the final i fink. besides good luck, wish it works! Elle, South dakota xxxxxxx

Have you treated your water?
Most city water is not healthy for fish due to chlorine and other additives. You can get medications at the aquarium shop that will remove this stuff.

They're just scared. Goldfish are generally kept in tanks full of about a million other goldfish. The new amount of room is scary to them. They'll adjust, don't worry. :-)

fish are known 2 b shy creatures , however when i kept koi carp i had them eating out of my hand and being able to tickle their bellies. time and patience r the key? look after them as if it were a dog, they will soon come round. if u stick 2 a regular feeding pattern ,spend time round your fish regulary ,u will reap the rewards.this was including goldfish, orf, shubunkins etc. i speak from experience, fish r smarter than we think, so scientist might have to study the 2 second memory of a fish? they are wrong???

Did you use tap water or distilled water? Maybe they are getting adjusted to their new surroundings and you should give them another day to get used to it. Keep an eye on them, be on the lookout for dark spots or any other indicator(s) of an illness.
P.S. I don't think that's a stupid question at all:-)

Lots of plants and at least a 10 gallon tank. If there is nowhere for them to hide they will be freaked out.

have you added a ph leveler and decholirated teh water? Do you have a filtration system? Goldfish are cold water fish, but is the water TOO cold? It will make them lethargic.

There seems to be something wrong with the water quality. Check your temperature and also the oxygen levels.
