First and foremost - keep it watered. Don't let the stump dry out. Check it 2-3 times a day if possible, or at least every morning when you get up, and every night before you go to bed.

If you haven't put it up yet, cut about 1/2 to 1 inch off the bottom just before putting it in the stand. This cuts off the sealed pores in the butt of the trunk, and (hopefully) exposes open pores that will take up water. Add warm water to the stand as soon as possible.

Don't put it over a heat register if possible. If you have to, at least close the register first. I've even taped my registers so that they don't blow warm dry air on the tree, and dry it faster.

Then add more water again.

Make sure that it has water in the base, there is something you can buy, comes in a small baggie, usually at walmart, that will help it stay green also....it would go in the base with the water also. The first thing you should have done, before you put your Christmas tree up, is to recut the bottom, not much, just an inch or so, that way it can easily soak up water. The reason why the needles fall off and it yellows is because it becomes dehydrated. If all else fails, the old way is to keep water in the base, and put a couple of aspirin in it. It's not the best, but it'll help out. Best of luck to you and Merry Christmas.

Put water at the bottom of the tree. Check it everyday and add more water every time it is empty. That will keep it green and fresh..
