Rap is very diverse, you cant label it in one hand basket. See half of rap is definately a minstrel show, but there is another half that is not promoted by the media so heavy people who are extremely positively like Mos Def, Common, Nas, Dead Prez, Talib Kweli, Little Brother, Gnarls Barkley, Outkast these artist are not about those things at all, actually they are totally againest those things. Its just white people dont buy a lot of positive and "good" rap, and the labels cater to white people. Thats why the air waves are full of ignorance. If you want to hear my positive rap, stop buying kooning behind rappers music, and buy some real emcees music.

It is in the lyrics, they say it all. Pimped out has to do with the Me mentality that has become the norm in todays youth. They see rap artist ( and I use the term loosely) as having everything they want in life and use them unwisely as role models. But hey, realistically who in Hollywood can you honestly say is a Good role model? Children have access to too much television and so the role models they should have, ie mom, dad, policemen, community volunteers, etc. have been overshadowed by that which they spend the most time with. And don't forget, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. So they imitate that which they see.

Because thats what these people were brought up with, and its "cool".
Rap is in fact crap, just some old songs music being stolen with someone talking over it in some daft way.
And the media, radio always play this stuff for some reason.
They want us to be involved with sex, violence and drugs so we won´t spend too much time seeing the real corruption going on high up in the offices of power.

thats because there are as ignorant as thier lyrics. all have fallen into a mold that they know will create success. why break the mold. if it aint broke....dont fix it.
i think we would all agree that the lyrics of almost every rap song are degrading, showy, unrealistic, commercialized, and down right dumb. that being said, it seems to be what the people want.
i dont think that it has to be this way though. think of "changes" by tupac. great song that addresses real issues and was popular. i happen to really like that song.
well it seems i am just rambling on and not really going anywhere with this comment so i guess i will stop now.

Look at who sing these songs and realize that they do the songs to make money. They are intended for those that live that life and think it is cool.Plus, many do use their money to help others. To "pimp" something means to upgrade it to the current "fad" and to be popular because you drive,or wear,or use that item.

Build it, and they will come. Play it and they will listen. The same thing happened in the 60's with rock music and the "hippie" culture. I think part of it is that each generation wants and needs to identify with something, usually voiced in their music. Right now, "Gangsta" is "in", A few years from now it will be something else, maybe better, maybe not....Just try to stay sensible!

There is "Trick my Truck" on the Country Music channel.
