My daughter and I made a bunch of pinecone ornaments a few years ago. We used red and green ribbon (tied as bows and glued a few around the pinecone) red, green and gold "pearls". I bought a package of small wooden toys/ornaments (the kind used on tiny X-mas trees) to glue to the top of the pinecones. We also used tiny red rosebuds to adorn them. (be careful with the glue gun) You could also use the ribbon to strand a few together to make a pinecone garland or even a wreath.
Except for the pinecones (although you could get some there, too), we bought all stuff at our fabric/craft store.

If these pine cones are the large ones that sit up you can have the kids cut up a beaded necklace( like the mardi gra beads). Then have the kids glue them on with craft glue on the pieces that are on the outside, to look like Christmas balls on the tree. You can also use little pom poms for the balls. You can also buy "snow paint" at craft stores and paint the out side edges to simulate snow and before it dries sprinkle iridescent glitter on the paint. The invert the cone and make a small loop and glue an end to each side and wallah an instant Christmas decoration.

You can use pine cones to make a tabletop Christmas tree. Get a old plate layer cones in a circle, then use hot glue, then the next layer using smaller cones to the top. U can also make a wreath with just pine cones and a bow.

my favorite pine cone craft is just watering down some elmers white glue and using a paint brush and brushing it on to the pinecone. after it is all covered sprinkling it with glitter and tieing on a yarn to make a pretty decoration.
for little gifts you can take peanut butter and shove it into the slots on the pine cone and then sprinkle it good with bird seeds and attach a string to the top and you have an instant bird feeder.
have a great christmas! SD

1. take red and green colored crayons melt in separate pots and add a drop or so of Cinnamon oil dip pine cones in one or the other color. you have have half red and half green.
great gift for those with wood stoves or a fireplace. smells great when burned.
2. spray paint pine cones gold and silver and hand paint white tips. great for kids crafts.
3. take a bunch of pine cones spray paint gold or leave natural and strings or lights basket and hot glue gun. place pine cones in glue and add lights then more pine cones glue in place then add more till you get a over flowing basket of pine cones with lights(you need to make a small hole at bottom of basket the the cord) you can use colored or clear bulbs. you can use a brush and lightly dab white glue and add glitter or almost anything to make them unique. paint basket or leave natural. the choices here are endless. you make them year round as special gifts.

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.
