It used to be on sundays about 10-15 years ago. It was a guy sitting in front of a fire with his dog and her would tell amazing stories.
Has it been released on DVD?

Yeah, It was John Hurt who played the storyteller, with Jim Henson providing the creatures. It was superb. You can get the DVD in the states but not in the UK.

AND THE BEST PLACE BY THE FIRE WAS KEPT FOR... THE STORYTELLER.

It was great, dont know why so many people answer questions just to say they dont know - it was a half hour series with John Hurt as this old guy in some fictional medieval time and he had an incredibly well educated talking dog. Each episode they'd take a folkstory from parts of europe and show it with actors and neat special effects and quite a bit of tongue in cheek humour. The episodes had creatures from Jim Henson's creature shop. Ah that takes me back... It was great.

I think I have the first 2 tapes on VHS somewhere. Don't know if they ever made a dvd but try amazon.

John Hurt played the gnomic Storyteller, a master yarner, accompanied during his fireside commentary by his intelligent dog (voice of Brian Henson)
This was shown on Children's TV Channel 4 in 1988.

I think I do. Didn't it have Rik Mayall in it and he sat in a strange chair?

i don't know but i would like to find out also great program maby we should all call television stations to get it returned even kids nowadays would enjoy it
