I can give you some information on Thebes, Egypt.

Thebes was on the Nile, split between the west and east bank. It is comprised of the modern day cites of Karnak and Luxor.Thebes was the capital of Egypt in the Middle and New Kingdoms. There was two major temples, the temple of Karnak, and the temple of Luxor.

As for military, Ancient Egyptians mainly used chariots. These were the pharaoh's favorite for battle. They also employed foot soldiers with spears and archers.

Economically, Thebes was very rich, and only was threatened when the capital was moved briefly to Tel El Armarna.

Do you mean Thebes Egypt or Thebes Greece? The Theban forces of Greece were very effective heavy infantry - god enough to handle Spartan forces very severely. An unusual feature of their military formation was that they put male lovers in the front of their phalanx. This was considered a position of honour in those times, but each person in a phalanx depended on the person on his weapon side staying solidly in line (while his own shield covered the next one along). It was considered - and seemed to work - that lovers would be more determined to protect each other. For the Thebans this worked well until the Macedonian Phalanx, with new tactics, arrived under King Philip. This force conquered the whole of Greece.
