How come in certain parts of the world, it gets colder in the winter and hotter in the summer? What causes these changes? Does the Earth revolve farther away from the Sun? Or perhaps in rotates on a different axis?

The Earth's axis is titled 23 degrees away from the line where its axis would be parallel to that of the sun. As a result, the direct rays of the sun fall on different parts of the earth by latitude at different times of the year. They are at the equator at the vernal equinox, move north until they hit the Tropic of Cancer at the summer solstice, go back south until they hit the equator again at the autumnal equinox, and fall on the Tropic of Capricorn at the winter solstice, then move north again.

The distance from the Earth to the sun is mostly irrelevant, as the Earth is actually closer to the sun in the winter in the Northern Hemisphere (aphelion is January 3) and further away in the Northern summer (perihelion is July 3).

It has to do with the Earths attitude toward the sun. Actually, in the Northern Hemisphere, we are further away from the sun in the summer and closer in the winter, but that has nothing to do with temperature. In the winter, the Earth is tilted away from the sun, and in return it is lower in the sky and it is out for less time.

It rotates on the same axis, one that is tilted thereby creating a different distance from the sun for some areas. The distance is further as you are further from the equator. Therefore some areas are closer (and warmer) than others as the earth goes around the sun. Others are further (cooler).

As the year progresses (one complete revolution around the sun) each are reverses position so the cooler becomes warmer and the warmer becomes cooler.

At the equator the distance does not change so there is a steady state level of warm.

It has to do with the sun's angle in the sky. In Summer the sun is more overhead, and it's rays are more concatrated on one area, so it gets hotter much faster. In the Winter, the sun is much lower in the sky, and te rays are slanted. To see the effect, use a globe, and a flashlight and aim it straight down at the globe. then angle it and see teh effects.

Nearly every credible scientist believe that Global Warming is as real as your left and right hand. The real controversy where they differ is whether global warming is man made or a natural occurace. After going over both sides and reading BOTH arguments for both sides with an open mind, I decided that both are actually corect in my personal opinion. Global Warming is a natural occurance but we are speeding the warming by our carbon emissions. Its the same with religion too. People want to believe one idea. Athiest don't want to accept the idea of God and christians don't want to accept that there is no God. Neither side wants to experience the other person's viewpoint. They want to read the bible or origin of species and believe every single word without question. If they so much as read the opposite side's viewpoint, they will try their hardest to disprove any and everything they come across. They will search for sources that prove their point while ignoring the other sides argument by refering to it as "illogical" or "not very rational". Then they pump themselves up by refering to themselves as not following the heard when they are doing the same as millions. Also they claim to be free or critical thinkers when in reality, they are just another puppet of their supported agenda. We need to look at both sides of the argument. One person may look at a object and call it a bowl but the other may see a round coffee mug. Its all a matter of perception.
