and then, I finally gave up the desire to be happy... I have been very happy since then :)

"the secret to ultimate happiness is to give up your desires..."

sorry, it's a secret n I'm sworn to secrecy.....well

....okaaay, I can tell ya what the crickets told me: one of the keys to ultimate happiness is the realization that happiness is fickle; it comes and goes: sometimes outside pressures and circumstances affect how frequent it comes tho.

Also, .....trying to grasp it is like trying to grasp water with your hand, happiness flows as it flows and will surely come back quicker when it can flow freely without holding on to it or grasping for it. Trying to hold onto it doesn't usually work.

I know people who spend so much time chasing after happiness----like it will always be found in something outside of themselves. It has to be right here in our attitudes and right seeing--.

Ultimate happiness may not mean being happy HA HA ducky happy all the time but there is a certain kind of calm/happiness/peace that comes from seeing the nature of life, which is change: one day sad, one day frustrated, high, low, good, bad, etc. all these are just the many aspects of life.......

Acceptance(as much as is possible whenever possible) brings about a kind of transformation, and paradoxically, acceptance brings about more true "happiness."

Not sure if this is the ultimate secret but I've found some truth and peace n happiness in understanding and really grasping the laws of impermanence.

Being able to be yourself, while being honest, humble, and never trying to impress others. I find that when I thrust attention and coolness onto others, it makes them happy. Knowing I've made another person smile is the secret of happiness. EXAMPLE: Last night, we played a softball game. Some guys brought a bunch of girls as a cheering section. One guy was really into the girls and wanted to show them what a stud he was on the diamond. We were losing 8-7 with runners at 2nd and 3rd. I singled up the middle, scoring a run, with two outs and tied the game. The guy who dug the chicks batted after me. I got a great jump on his grounder to short and managed (I'm still not sure how) to beat the throw to second base. The guy at third scored and we won, walk-off style. Everyone came over and congratulated me on the hit and the great base-running and I was telling them it was the other guy, he hit the ball too hard for the shortstop to handle it, blahblahblah. The girls were looking at him and smiling and joking. Giving that guy credit, when I KNEW anyone else on the basepath would have been a dead duck at second, makes me feel good. Let them have the attention. That's the secret of happiness.

The secret to ultimate happiness is.....:drumroll:...

being happy! :confetti pops out:

Seriously, though....be what you wanna be, especially when its something like "happy." There are a million and one techniques for getting what you want, but it really all comes down to what you're willing to do or give up in order to get just that. It takes guts to just do something, even being happy...because we feel like we're cheating if we don't do this or that and meet all the "prerequisites," but truly- be happy, and happiness is sure to follow:)

The happiest people are children. They giggle blissfully.
Being loved unconditionally, innocent of evil, constantly learning.

Being grateful for what we have is a BIG plus. Too many people feel sorry for themselves.
Have a positive attitude and it brings you up.
