The gestation period is one month. Also, rabbits can get pregnant again immediately after giving birth, so they can literally have a litter every month. (Hence the phrase "breeding like rabbits!")

The average time of gestation is 31 days.
It is not unknown for rabbits to go as early as 28 days or late as 33 days for an average as well.
And it certainly is not unheard of for a rabbit to carry a week past their due date and have the babies still come out alive and with fur already!!
Most small breeds will have an average of 1-4 kits per litter. Medium to large breeds can have up to 15 per litter, but the average is 6-8.
FACT: Baby rabbits are called "kits", and they are born "naked and blind"
There is no reason why someone should NOT breed rabbits, as long as they take RESPONSIBILITY for them. Do not breed for cuteness, or breed for the sake of wanting the experience of raising babies.
There are many unwanted MIXED breed of rabbits because of people who do not understand the responsibility that goes into animal care and there is only ONE person that creates abandoned animals, and that is the person that chooses to not take responsibility for their actions of finding a proper home but rather "dump" an unwanted pet into a shelter or turn them loose.

If you're considering breeding, bear this in mind: rabbits are probably going to die. Probably the babies, possibly the mother. It's common for first-time mothers to lose their whole litter to inexperience. When I bred, the only time I saw more dead animals than I did in the weeks following a birth was butchering day.
Rabbits are also hard to sell. If you're selling to 4-H kids, they'll want to buy a rabbit from a big-time breeder. Actual breeders are even pickier. If you're selling for pets, the market is pretty saturated; you might find homes for one or two. And not many people like rabbit meat.

hey it is so good of you to contemplate retaining it, curiously like my toddler rabbits with the sticky up gray ears my vet advised me maximum rabbits are actually crossbreed yet this type is a butterfly flow. that's the 1st time we had rabbits and that they are so loving and loveable you will get a super type of delight. in case you come to a determination it is not practicable attempt close by puppy shops who would have the flexibility to get it a good abode and a minimum of guard it contained in the advise time. to ascertain the intercourse it incredibly is ultimate to pass to the vet they'll try this for loose because it incredibly is complicated to tell the intercourse previously around 10wks with the aid of a men factors no longer decending straight away away. As for this woman who incorporates on breeding those bunnies and leaving them to fend for themselves how do they eat or drink no longer to point fend off, or no longer as might for sure be the case, a fox or canines, or fowl or maybe little ones the assumption is insufferable you would be able to desire to document her to the police and the RSPCA good luck on your determination x

My father said he had about 33 rabbits when he was 'young'... all because he tried to breed just one pair.
