nip to the shop, buy some seasonal snow spray and decorate the house. This will disguise the ash.

if its carpet DO NOT rub it in. use bothing but a vacuum b/c it will rub in a ruin the carpet. explain to your friend what happened, if shes really your friend she'll understand. ask her wear the vacuum is and clean it yourself.
