Fruits Basket, Fushigi Yuugi, and Ayashi no Ceres are all pretty shoujo. Oh, and Azumanga Daioh is also pretty funny.

I will give you the latest shoujo anime in Japan~

Kirarin Revolution- About a young pure hearted girl who strives to be an idol because of love for one of SHIPS members (ships is a pop group) hardships like evil rivals, singing out of tune, and cooking are some of the things Kirarin will go through!~

NANA- a story about two girls with the same name(Nana), the same age, who meet in the bullet train going to Tokyo, they are both new to Tokyo, new to the city life, when they finally reach Tokyo, they separate and thought that they will never see each other again but end up sharing room 707(nana zero nana) in a nice old apartment after all.( Later, Komatsu Nana is nicknamed Hachiko). Since then they help each other with their own hardships, and become the best of friends.

Rakugo Tennyo Oyui- Six girls are summoned to the end of Edo period to become magical girls(wearing cute altered kimono!X3) from the power of stones. They will protect villages from evils.

Lovedol ~Lovely Idol~ -Singing and Dancing shoujo!~ Yay~ let's become Idol! haha(many anime like this pop up lately.. Like Kirarin Revolution and Lemon Angel Project) Well, the art is super cute and the voice actors are excellent in this one, so you should see it.

Jigoku Shoujo- do you want revenge?~ just access "jigoku tsuujin"(Jigoku Shoujo's website) at the stroke of midnight, and just type the person's name on the blank space, the one you want to send to hell. It is very convenient!~ you will get a confirmation message on your keitai(cell phone) when it is accepted, wait a few seconds and she will be right behind you!!~ she will give you a straw doll with a red string on it's neck and if you REALLY want your enemy to go to hell all you have to do is pull it.. but there is a catch~ when you die(whatever the cause), you are going to hell too.. Hahaha!~ (not really shoujo anime but you should still really watch it, it's the best!^-^ I love Enma Ai!)

classics you should see is:

Fushigi Yuugi- A girl named Miaka opens an ancient book and is sucked into the past along with her best friend Yui. they become priestess, Miaka of Suzaku, and Yui of Seiryuu. Yui is tricked into hating her best friend and they race to summon their gods, when it is summoned, one wish can be granted (ok you should also see Ayashi no Ceres because it is also good^-^)

Candy Candy- Poor orphan, Candy is too old for the orphanage! She needs to be adopted~ one day she finds out that a rich family is willing to adopt her, but everyone is sad because it turns out that she will be adopted to become a maid~! they are cruel to her, and push her around, and say mean things to her, but she tries to stay strong. one day she meets a guy, he is a cousin of the evil siblings from that family, but then he is nice and Candy falls in love with him~(there is more to tell in the story, its really good you should see it)

Berusaiyuu no Bara(The Rose of Versailles)- Lady Oscar is not a crossdresser!~ it is a request from her father, because they never had a son. haha^-^ but she is really great~! so the story is about her, and Marie Antoinette, and their troubles in life. Very interesting story! You should at least know about this because it is a wonderful classic.
