Can tell you and Basset the same thing. They aren't buying what you actually want because they don't know/understand - no matter how often you explain it - what to actually buy. What brand, size, configuration or where to buy it. This is out of their realm. They buy the radio or whatever and get it wrong and make themselves look silly and dissapoint you. They want to ensure making you happy - so they buy something else and figure your wish list is a small item in the realm of things - so want you to buy what makes you happy. They'll buy what they are capable of buying and hopefully it is an even better surprise.
You want the radio and she has no idea that it would mean more than anything. Find one in a catalog, etc and circle it in red. Leave it on the bathroom counter or on the stove and then cough, whistle - look at her meaningfully - swat the catalog in the air and put on a big smile - look at the radio ad and sniff a bit saying you wish you knew someone who'd get this for you - maybe Santa. Sniff..... Or just leave the computer on at this page...

Ok give me her phone number,I will pretend I am an elf and Santa wants to know if he should get the radio for you this year or is she going to get it. Think that would work? 1). Like season tickets to your favorite pro sports team.
2). A week-long Canadian fishing trip
3). A new chain-saw...

At this point,you two have probably discussed it so much, maybe it has become a thing that bothers her as much as it does you. If you want it that badly, why don't you buy it for yourself? Problem solved. Then startt concentrating on what YOU can do for others.

i am with yo on this.every year for my birthday or Christmas i never get what i want or need .all i wanted was a coffee pot.not a expensive one.because mine runs so slow.well guess what it was a no show again.why do they even bother to ask you if there not going to get it for you .or they no you really need it.i tough your suppose to get the person something they need or want.ill just go buy it my self. if I'm ever going to get it.merry Christmas.

Maybe she wants to surprise you. The trouble with getting people what they asked for is that they know what they're getting then. Maybe you should ask for a dozen items with different price ranges. Then she might pick that item because you won't know which of the 12 you might be getting.

Tell her what you want, or drop hints when you two are shopping together by saying.. ooo that looks nice, i wouldn't mind having that. or try something on at a clothing store but don't buy it. drop hints or just flat out tell her

I would go buy it yourself, or insist that you want a gift card from Wal-mart. They do carry car audio.
