You need a router to share one DSL or cable modem connection. If you get a wireless router, then it can also share between wireless clients, in addition to the ones plugged into the ports on the back. For wireless access, you'll have to configure the wireless setup- in order for the computer to communicate over the air, the settings must match those on your router.
Here are a few examples of what you need, brand really doesn't matter, they all cost & work about the same...

Depends!! What connection do you have??
If you have a DSL or Cable connection and both PCs are in the same room go for the wired router. Remember a wired router is much more safe than a wireless router.

You do not mention the type of your net connection ,,phone dialing or ADSL ?,, if phone,, then you need dial up modem for each one,, inserted onto PCI slot,,,
if you have ADSL connection,, then you must see,, if both have ethernet card inserted onto them or not,,,, most recent computers have this card,,,you can see its slot on the back of the computer,, it is slightly larger than the phone socket,,, if yes,, then you need a Router and a switch to connect both,, at the same time to your connection
