It was the most notorious scientific experiment in recent memory - in 1989, the two men who claimed to have discovered the energy of the future were condemned as imposters and exiled by their peers. Can it possibly make sense to reopen the cold fusion investigation? A surprising number of researchers already have..☺

Opps, thought I would get you and say that it is perfected, just look at the sun.

Then you added that last bit and now I have to actually answer it.

Fusion can only be used as a power source when we can actually capture and use the energy from a fusion reaction. The problem there is that fusion only occurs at very high tempertures and we have no way of containing it at this time.

There are theory's about "room temperture fusion", however, if the reaction does not produce a large change in temperture, it does not create a lot of energy for use.

In a way, we do use fusion as a power source. When you burn wood, coal, or natural gas, you are converting the energy of the sun into heat.

It's actually worse than Eugene N states. In the 50's it was 10 years away, in the 60's it was 20. Since the 70's it's been 30 years and holding.

For the last 35 years years, I've been hearing in about 20 years and that number still seems to hold true. I suspect they really have no idea.
