I need to know if the following statements are true, and if they arent, then what i could add or take out in order to make them correct:
The egg and sperm have a diploid chromosome number.
The chromosome number is reduced by a process called mitosis.
When two sex cells join, the chromosome number is doubled.
The joining of an egg and sperm is called meiosis.
Body cells contain pairs of chromosomes.
A zygote has a diploid chromosome number.
Meiosis produces cells with a diploid chromosome number.
After two neuclear divisions in meiosis, four cells result.
Sex cells contain only one chromosome from each matched pair.
Meiosis can occur anywhere in the body.

I also need to know the answers to the following ?s.
1) In what way is meiosis II smiliar to mitosis?
2) How are gametes different from other cells in the body?
3) WHat is the total number of paired chromosomes in a body cell called?
4)Do centromeres divide at anaphase 1 or anaphase?

Look up definitions in the glossary or Wikipedia to figure out what you need to add.

The chromosome # is reduced by MEIOSIS.
The joining of egg and sperm is FERTILIZATION.
MITOSIS produces diploid cells.
Meiosis occurs in GAMETOCYTES. (I'm not sure the specifics.)

1) Meiosis I is similar to mitosis.
2) Gametes are hapliod...
3) Diploid means two sets of each chromosome, although I'm not sure what the question is asking.
4) Centromeres don't divide. The sister chromoatids separate in A II.

Oh good catch drewbear_99.
The egg and sperm are HAPLOIDs.

The union of two cells from different origins provides a healthy variety to life. The lesser known reproduction system takes place when the hormones of sperm are released on the egg shell. The hormones flows through the shell and can commence cell division by meiosis. The actual sperm is not strong enough to penetrate. This produces a clone of the egg parent. The necessary ingredient is the thick egg shell or a weak disinterested male sperm cell. There are many species in the animal world that do meiosis at copulation time. I read of one study on the black Mollie fish in The American magazine 'Science'. Perhaps the best clue to human meiosis is after castration in captivity in Babylon anciently a well known race was not wiped out and return to their homeland to become a great nation twice. These were not descendants of the Babylonians but truly sons of the Jewish women.
