Well, there are not always two opposites in nature. Sometimes there are three, as with quarks that make up protons and neutrons. With time you have the past, present, and future. Sometimes there are six if we include the anti-quarks. With Goldilocks and the three bears, you have "too hot", "too cold", and "just right". On the benzene ring you can position two radicals in ortho, meta, or para positions in relationship to each other. With numbers you have the integers, rational numbers, irrational numbers, transcendental numbers, and imaginary numbers; five different types of numbers.
If I thought about it long enough I'm sure I could find interesting examples of all numbers of categories. So it really depends on how you draw your categories, or which ones you select or think about.
Yet humans tend to emphasize opposites as this is, in part, the way our minds work. It is part of the patterns we impose on nature by our thoughts. And the term "opposites" does sort of imply only two. The world is more complicated than something built out of opposites.

The best example is probably male and female. In nature you can't have one without the other...and when both come together a new movement or force is produced. Without this action and reaction (duality) there would be no development of life. A single movement (active charge) needs to be stimulated by another (passive charge) or nothing will ever happen and come forth.
Also, without corresponding opposites, and the insights that come with them, you could never know who and what you are--or anything else for that matter.

Well, there are not always two opposites in nature. It is easy to think that there are, because people find it easy to classify things and be logical. It seems that if we can name something, then we can name what we think is the opposite of it. But this process is only a reflection of human perceptions and methodology especially regarding the use of language to name our reality.
For example, the absence of something is not its opposite, but if you ask what is the opposite of light, people will probably answer dark. But in nature, light is just the part of the electromagnetic spectrum that we can see. What we call 'dark' is in reality filled with parts of the electromagnetic spectrum that we can not see, that perhaps other animals can see. It is our limitation that encourages us to simplify nature into common denominators and opposites.
;-D What is the opposite of gravity, or time?

LOLz. That's a nice list. In other words 'he' programmed us with a glitch and then makes us responsible for having that glitch and acting on that glitch. What was the glitch? Some of us use the ability to think critically. Many don't. Not only that, 'he' knows everything past, present and future - what's his deal? Does 'he' get his jollies like other Peeping Toms and Psychopaths. Xianity is a contradiction that survived cos people are so fearful of the threats 'he' makes their FEAR over-rides their ability to reason. Thank god I'm a fearless atheist. .

The essence of you being is unconditional love, you have unity with God within the heart, undivided oneness. When this love passes through the mental concepts of duality love divides into Positive / negative, up / down, in / out, good / evil, etc. emotions divide into conditional love / hate and all the ranges of emotion, fear, anger, lust, jealousy, etc. AS sunlight passing through water crystals divides into the colors of the rainbow. Watch your thoughts,do not allow negative thought to stay in your mind, always choose postive uplifting, loving thought.

there doesn't have to be two things and that shouldn't be called nature... it is more like the way that we make sense of ourselves as well as environment. for example you know darkness as where the there is no light... but having an opposite helps you make sense of it easier...
