It has been 5 weeks since my last period. I have been slightly nauseated so I took a test and it was positive. My husband says he doesn't believe the test as there are such things as "false positives". I am not on any meds except a prenatal vitamin. Maybe I'm jumping the gun and should wait another week and test again. What should I do?????

False positives. BAH. I don't PERSONALLY buy into those.

For that extra line to show up on a test, it needs enough HCG. If there is no HCG, there is no line. If there is no pregnancy, there is no HCG.

You can get false negatives if you test too early (before enough HCG can be detected) and if you read the test after 10 minutes and THEN there is an extra line, that can't be reliable, either.

But if the positive showed within the time allowed per the test's instructions....it's a positive.

And being FIVE WEEKS LATE? Damn..that is a long time....I would say a congrats is in order. Head to your OB for a blood test for comfirmation.

Honey...you ARE pregnant! Get a doctor's appointment immediately!!!! And he will tell you which vitamins and such to start. False positves don't happen that often with today's pregnancy tests.

Actually, in ten days you should know whether you are pregnant or not. Since you already take a home pregnancy test you might as well consult your gynecologist, to know better of your condition. In my opinion you are pregnant and if you don't miss your period from the past this could be it. Good luck anyway.

Those over the counter tests are a lot more reliable than they used to be.

You now have a positive test, lateness of period, and morning nausea... Sweetie, I think you are preggers.

There are sometimes false negatives, but false positives aren't as normal. Go to the dr. for verification of pregnancy- I really think congratulations is in order here.
