There are definetly plenty of things to do in Ft. Lauderdale. If you like to shop, there is the Galleria Mall, and there is plenty of beach. Hollywood beach is fun, there are bike rentals, places to eat and local bands play some nights. You can also go to The Ft. Lauderdale Museum of Art, which recently had the King Tut exhibit. There is also the Broward Center for Performing Arts where you can see many different musicals, recently Wicked, and Phantom of the Opera were there. Also go to Las Olas in downtown Ft. Lauderdale, tons of restaurants and shops (expensive shops), it is a great place to go at night for a nice dinner. If you want to stay at a nice beach resort, stay at the Marriot Harbor Beach. They are on the ocean, and have a large pool, hot tubs, and all the sevices you want. Another great thing to do is take a Intercostal cruise. Hop onto one of the ships at Riverwalk. You ride down the waterway passed multi-million dollar beautiful houses, then into Port Everglades. If you go on Saturaday, you will see all the huge cruise ships. Have fun in Ft. Lauderdale.
