when i put it in stand by. my com just start up with out me wantting to?!its a windows xp

I know why. Its because when you but it in stand by, your mouse can't be move or the keyboard can't be touched. That turns on the computer in stand by. Go ahead give it a try, put your computer on stand by and move the mouse a little and see what happens.

i agree with all the answers but there is some thing else it could be 1.have a fan close to your case(like a desk fan)2. another computer .i had this happen i have 2 computers in my room and when i turn one on the other one does or if i put one on sleep than use the other one the computer wakes up.

It might be what Tayshaun said but it could be also the "Wake on LAN" option in the BIOS setup program. If you have an Internet connection though a network addapter and that option enabled, everytime the server tries to communicate with your network addapter, your computer will "wake up". Try to disable that option and see what's happening.
