Hmm. Well, gift giving during Christmas is considered a social norm..
Leaving a tip for the waiter, (hopefully at least 15%)
...only having sex with consenting adults...
Saying please and thankyou, (it's still considered rude if we don't)
...pretty sorry excuses for social norms now, hah.
We are at a time now where social norms have been and continuously are being challenged every which way, where I could have rattled off over a dozen things in an instant even 30 years ago, now it is a bit more of a challenge.
Like: people who fall in love get married and have children. (ended somewhat with the women's movement)
People have sex with the opposite sex. (ended with the sexual revolution, before that, was considered EXTREMELY taboo)
Modest dress always (turn of the century social norm, women even had to wear long johns to the beach)
A wife and mother's job is to stay home with the children (ended around WWII, then was unceremoniously given the heave ho after the women's movement and sexual revolution)..
I'd be surprised if anyone could name social norms anymore. "Normality" is being faught by the counter-culture, and with that goes society.

something that i dont believe is a widespread social norm but should be is be letting someone behind you ahead of you in line if you have 40 carts full of groceries and the person behind you has a candybar...i notice that this act of generosity is always much more prevalent around christmas time which just makes me sick.
another would be having your check mostly pre filled before paying at the register, i cant stand it when im in line with 25 people and some dolt is holding up the whole line and taking their time writing out a check. it should be written into law to be store policy to escort these individuals out of the store and banning them from the store for ever.

It depends on your life style. Social norms in "high society" aren't my social norms, and mine aren't those of someone dependent upon drugs or alcohol

Depends on what society you are living in. It refers to the normal expected actions of the members of its society.

stopping at red light, moving at green, driving on right side of road in the U.S., paying for groceries after you shop, waiting in line at the DMV, mowing your lawn , waiting your turn in line, playing video games, doing researches on the Internet, brushing your teeth everyday, wearing clothes when out in public, applying sun screen at the beach, in the U.S. everyone going to school when young, getting driver's license at 16, wrapping Christmas presents, calling to let someone know you will be late. There are 16 for you, pick the ones you think are best.....and next time do your own homework....hahahahahaha
