Considering both the history of American parties and the 2000 party platforms, what are the most striking similarities between the Republican and Democrat parties?

They both pee either standing or siting and anymore that's about it!

Bot parties have a cross section of people ranging from useless to extremely capable, from dishonest to honest, from self serving to altruistic, etc.
Most of the members of congress of both parties put their party first and the country second. I think though, that the Democrats are more guilty of this than the Republicans.
Incumbents of both parties seem to spend all there time trying to get reelected, giving little time to understanding and trying to implement the wishes of the people.
Both parties feel their ideas and philosophies are correct, although I think the Republicans are much better at stating and explaining their positions.
I could come up with a much more comprehensive list of dissimilarities. :)

The primary similarity is that, in general, they all want control of others and the powers to make that happen. The Republican *usually* want to control social relations and the Democrats *usually* want to control financial relation. The bottom line though is the same - POWER and CONTROL.

The both lie to the American people, have their own agenda, are incompetent when it comes to managing tax payer money, and don't know there fourth point of contact from a hole in the ground.

it really isn't any longer only yahoo. i have said that everybody who refuses to settle for various evaluations and is smug sufficient to anticipate he or she is nice whatever makes use of an identical argument as anybody else. they trust of their own thoughts, their party's perspectives, sufficient to no longer be in a position to discover quite the reason why the opposing party may be precise if for no different reason than to come back up with extra perfect arguments adverse to them. in my view, i imagine they concern that they could be incorrect too a lot to really attempt to take heed to one yet another and paintings at the same time.

They both insist they won the election.
Both screamed scandal when they thought the other side won.

They are both fork tongued politicians, who promise you the world, and wind up doing nothing remotely close to what they promise during their campaign.
