Hello all,

I have a heat pump which I've done nothing for in the past couple of months, all of a sudden the thermostat is saying "No AC Power". I go through that manual and it says that the thermostat is getting no AC power, the shutoff at the furnace must be tripped.

I reset the main circuit breaker for the furnace, I test the switch next to the furnace to make sure that the furnace is getting power and it is so I'm thinking there is a local shutoff at the furnace which has been tripped but I can not find it.

Please review the attached photos and let me know if you see it before my family freezes! (it's Sunday or else I would just call someone)

Can you guys take a look at the pictures and let me know where I should be testing?

The lightswitch next to the unit which controls the unit is hot.

This is where the wires outside the unit are connected to:

I think the black thing is a starter, it's by Essex, Logansport IN, 9034, 134020103-301. Where do I stick my voltmeter?

This is next:

But all of that looks like control wires, not the serious stuff.

That looks like the fan speed control.

This is a picture of a "manual shut off switch" according to the box, but it isn't hot and I can't move it, it's just a disc, maybe a thermocouple? Could this be rusted and need replaced? My voltmeter doesn't show anything

Thanks,

Adam

You have a electrical tester? You should be able to see where the thermostat wires enter your furnace, test the wires there and see if any power is going out on at least one of them, maybe 24 volts. If not check the thing they are connected to , probably a transformer, check across the transformer with your tester and see if it putting out voltage, just a start!

R T
check out if transformer to thermostat is operating , if okay does this have an igniter or pilot light ,Check ignitor to see if working
the gas valve may also be a culprit by not opening
If you can't fix it , call a service man in as to not stay in the cold .

First of all I don't think you have a heat pump. you abviously have gas heat. Try the simple things first like checking that the gas valve is not off.
Second, check that the valve on your heater is not set to pilot, but rather to run or on. that's the black valve in the second picture. If you do have a pilot, make sure it is lit.

There are lots of potential causes. Get a multi-meter and check all of the switches. It is a process of elimination. Good luck.
