If you mean to take your (working) hd and expect to work the same in a different pc, No it won't work.

You would have to ghost your working hd and re image it inside the new machine.

I know there is an issue with the boot sector maybe where its setup for the hardware config of you existing pc.

I have tried this before (straight swapping) and it wouldn't boot.

good luck

Yes you can swap the hard drive between P3 to P4.

Dont worry It will not make any problem dear.
If any problem occours then just re-install the Operating System Windows 2000 or Windows XP which you like.

Yes, you can install it in a new computer but as Ron said, it won't work. You'll have to reformat it, reinstall Windows (might have to get a new license key) and then install the drivers for that system. I also hope the hard drive is larger than 20GB (standard issue with most P3 era computers), if it's not or is only 20GB then I would just buy a new hard drive and be done with the old one (as a primary drive), you could always slave it off of a larger drive and use it as extra space once you have your files off of it.

I mean you can get a 160GB hard drive for $55, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822145091

yes, you can swap it, might want to upgrade to windows xp first though. If it is 2000 Server, you will have more problems than 2000 Pro. Server is a little more sensitive than pro is it does not like its hardware changed that much except for like ram and maby a video card upgrade. just as long as you get IDE/ATA or if you have a
SATA PCI card.
