A parent company is a company that owns another company. For example, Berkshire Hathaway is the parent company Warren Buffett uses to buy up other companies. Berkshire Hathaway is the parent company to all the other companies he has control over, such as Geico Insurance, Clayton Home, MBM Distribution, and on and on and on. Hope that helps.
