Okay - imagine you are holding a grapefruit in your hand. It is not moving - but if it fell to the ground, it would be. It has the potential energy of falling to the ground. If you are standing on top of a building, holding the grapefruit - it has more potential energy. (further to fall - it will weight more when it drops)
Kinetic energy - is the actual movement.
