usually, you start with baby cereal around 4 or 5 months and work your way up to baby food around 6 months or so. keep doing this at a regular pace and by about 1 year to 14 months, your baby should be able to eat solids such as cubed, softened veggies, meats, mashed potatoes, etc... 6 weeks is way way to early. infants are not more hungry than others. parents use that as an excuse to stuff their babys full of food in the hopes that they will sleep longer at night. that is a load of bs. when you do that, you risk your infant's health in lots of ways. talk to your pediatrician.

The World health Organization endorses exclusive breastfeeding till the baby is 26 weeks old. (6 months) The youngest age advised is 4 months and this is a slow process a spoonful or two once a day.
A baby who has previously slept through the night and starts waking consecutively for a feed may be ready to wean. Also when weight gain slows or stops. It is always better to get answers like this from health professionals.

From the institut national de santé publique du Québec, they say around 6 months. When:1) the baby should be able to sit without any supports and able to hold his own head, (like turn his head when he wants); 2) when he drinks more milk then usual for more then 5 days; 3) When the baby can hold his lips tightly.

at about 11 months to a year of age. Until the i highly reccomend cooking a good meal for your self e.g carrots, brocolli etc. for youself and blending small amount in a blender for the baby. Thia way you know exactly what you are giving to your baby, as canned baby food which is already made contain perservatives and enzymes which help the baby digest its food, which are not natural.

-i didnt start feeding my son solids till around 9 months but some babies are hungrier than others so you might need to start a little earlier than that, but not before 6 months.

my 1st son had solids at 12 weeks but my 2nd one was on solids by the time he was 6 weeks as he was so hungry, all babies are different be guided by your baby you will know when baby is ready, when the milk you are giving them no longer fills them up and you end up feeding them more often than every 4 hours or so.

In my opinion and experience, I would say when milk and baby food and cereal is not filling him or her up. But, I would make sure the solid food is mild enough for the baby...mashed potatoes, grits, oatmeal, etc.
