How do I get money out of a money tree I planted on Animal Crossing Wild World?

I planted a money tree (with a golden shovel) and it's fully grown. I shake it and nothing comes out. Why? Did I waste my money?

Hmm... it should have bells growing on it if i'm not mistaken. Itr could have already been shaken, because it only bears gold once.
