I thought this was not used anymore, but I heard from somebody that it still is.
What type is used?

I taught in a private school several years ago that had teens copying dictionary pages in detention. I also assigned disciplinary essays as well, but this was a private school so it was much stricter than public.

That can be considered as corporal punishment - similar to that of standing in class and caning.

For societies or schools that are firmly against teachers meting out corporal punishment, writing lines is no longer condoned.

Well, they had that in elementary school for me.. but it was never 100 times.. 10 times at the most.
In the later grades, they stopped.

The school I teach at does not allow this type of punishment.

Schools report to parents if the student is not performing well.

well, it sure is still used for my school. but it ain't that frequent amongst most teachers.

i had to write, 200 times,

"i will wear my tie and not be late for school again."

as i was late for school, didn't wear my tie(i'm a prefect and prefects wore ties), and had late-coming duties on that day.
